Programme Plan
The children could refer to any previous work on electrical safety (see linked worksheets).
They should select anything that is relevant to keeping younger children safe where electricity is used. Ask them how a presentation for younger children will differ from one for adults or for children of their own age. They can consider ways of engaging younger children’s interest, using what they know about younger members of their families or children at the school. They could list the characters, actions and types of music or songs that appeal to younger children. Their presentation should not frighten younger children.
Ask the children to consider how they can use pictures, printed or spoken words, sounds and music to present their electrical safety message to younger children. Their task could be simplified by allocating one aspect of electrical safety to each pair of children in the group: for example, sockets, cookers, lights, flexes, tools, toys.
Children should share out the tasks for their group’s presentation. They should make sure they all know what the others in their group are doing.
